MEMBERSHIP OVERVIEW |
TYPE OF MEMBERSHIP
MAA membership falls into several categories depending on the type of work you do and your company size. Review the categories below and if you have any questions, please reach out.
Commercial Active Membership
This membership level is for companies that perform tree work for profit. The member holder is often the company owner but could be an office manager or other company employee. One person holds the company membership in their name and is the primary point of contact for the company.
- Level 2 (6-10 employees) $590
- Level 3 (11-15 employees) $760
- Level 4 (16-29 employees) $930
- Level 5 (30+ employees, multi branch) $1100
Membership benefits include discounts for the primary member, listing in the member directory, receipt of the quarterly MAA NEWS, and the opportunity for additional employees to join MAA as affiliate members (see below).
Affiliate Membership $70
This membership is for employees of Commercial Active member companies. Affiliate membership is particularly recommended for MCAs or anyone seeking to earn their MCA designation. Affiliate membership covers MCA certification and offers significant discounts on MCA study materials and exam fees.
Associate Membership $450
This category is for suppliers of goods or services to the tree care industry. Equipment dealers, software providers, safety trainers, insurance companies – all are examples of suppliers to the industry. Associate member benefits include opportunities to sponsor MAA events and engage directly with your target audience.
In addition, MAA offers Sponsor-Content emails for Associate members (once per year) and Associate members are invited to submit educational content for the newsletter to raise awareness of your particular product or service.
Individual Active Membership $215
This membership category is for any tree care professional who works for an entity for whom tree care is not the source of income – for example, a municipality, college or university, condo association or even a landscape firm for whom tree care is a small segment of the business. This category does NOT apply to self-employed arborists who may have multiple income streams. There must be an employer with a primary revenue source that is not tree care.
Multiple team members? Individual active members can add up to two affiliate members from their team. Once there are beyond two affiliate members, a commercial membership category should be selected.
Other membership categories:
MCA Retired Affiliates $65
Retired MCAs may remain members of MAA as affiliates indefinitely.
Out of State Affiliates $70
If less than 10% of one’s income is earned from work in Massachusetts, one is eligible to join MAA as an Out of State affiliate. Numerous MCAs maintain an affiliate membership while living or working all across the country or world. It’s a great way to stay connected and a cost-effective way to maintain your MCA.

Non-member MCAs $95
MAA membership is not required for MCAs. It is recommended because MAA membership provides lower cost access to credit-earning opportunities and fosters a deeper connection to the tree care industry. However, if one opts not to join MAA as a member, their MCA can be maintained by paying an annual non-member fee with recertification.
