After a recent retirement and an internal promotion, the City of Albany is pleased to announce the search for a new Assistant City Forester.  The Assistant Forester reports to the City Forester and together they manage the day-to-day field operations of the City’s Forestry crews (including work assignments and quality control, field supervision, staff training and discipline, equipment maintenance and trouble-shooting, etc).  Like the crews, Foresters alternate weeks on call in case of tree related emergencies.  In emergency situations the Assistant Forester is expected to lead from the fore, including driving and operating equipment (bucket trucks, log loaders) if necessary.  Possession of a Commercial Driver’s License (Class B or higher with an air brakes endorsement) is required within six months of employment.  Line Clearance Tree Trimmer Training and Certification is required, but will be provided by the City.  ISA  and/or MCA Arborist certification is preferred.  This is a full-time, year-round union position with excellent benefits.  If interested, please submit a cover letter, resume and list of three references via email to Forestry@AlbanyNY.gov by January 31, 2026
