A Living Laboratory for the Future of Arboriculture Millborn Farm — a remarkable 190-acre landscape — will become a hub for hands-on education, field research, and community engagement. Together with The Trustees, we aim to create an experiential learning environment that highlights the beneficial role trees play in carbon sequestration and climate resilience while fostering public appreciation for professional tree care. The renovated Carriage Barn will serve as the heart of this initiative — a 1,000-square-foot multi-purpose facility designed for: Professional Development: Safety seminars, certification preparation, and continuing education for MAA members. Technical Training: Workshops on tree identification and health, pruning, removal, soil science, native plantings, and ecology. Research Collaboration: Supporting UMass field research in Tree Risk Assessment and other cutting-edge studies. Next Generation Engagement & Networking: A gathering place for collaboration, mentorship, and innovation in tree care practices.
