Massachusetts arborists Association |

The Massachusetts Arborists Association (MAA), in partnership with The Trustees, invites you to be part of a transformative initiative — the creation of the arboriculture learning center at Millborn Farm in Sherborn and Millis, MA.
This partnership brings together two organizations with a shared vision: to inspire environmental stewardship, advance professional education, and celebrate the essential role trees play in our environment.
A Living Laboratory for the Future of Arboriculture
Millborn Farm — a remarkable 190-acre landscape — will become a hub for hands-on education, field research, and community engagement. Together with The Trustees, we aim to create an experiential learning environment that highlights the beneficial role trees play in carbon sequestration and climate resilience while fostering public appreciation for professional tree care.
The renovated Carriage Barn will serve as the heart of this initiative — a 1,000-square-foot multi-purpose facility designed for:
Professional Development: Safety seminars, certification preparation, and continuing education for MAA members.
Technical Training: Workshops on tree identification and health, pruning, removal, soil science, native plantings, and ecology.
Research Collaboration: Supporting UMass field research in Tree Risk Assessment and other cutting-edge studies.
Next Generation Engagement & Networking: A gathering place for collaboration, mentorship, and innovation in tree care practices.
Expanding Our Impact This initiative goes beyond education — it’s about shaping the future of the tree care industry: - Partnership with The Trustees to connect arboriculture with broader conservation and land stewardship efforts. - Workforce development and training to strengthen our profession. - Next-generation engagement to inspire future arborists. - Public awareness to highlight the vital importance of mature tree care. |

| Your Legacy, Our Future The Trustees and the MAA are working together to raise the necessary funds to create the new arboriculture learning center. The fundraising goal for MAA's contribution is $300,000. Your association has launched the fund with $25,000 — and now we invite members and other supporters to join us in realizing this vision. Your tax-deductible contribution - in the form of a one-time donation or as an extended pledge over two years - will directly support the renovation of the Carriage Barn and the creation of a solid legacy for the MAA community. Together, we can build a place where learning, stewardship, and the love of trees converge — a place that will benefit our members, our industry, and the environment for generations to come. |
Join Us in Shaping the Future The Trustees, a 501 (c)(3) public charity, will be accepting all donations for this exciting endeavor. See below for check instructions or contact Jenna Gomes, Senior Director for Individual Giving, at jgomes@thetrustees.org for gift instructions, including cash wires, stock transfers or Donor Advised Fund grants. Help us reach our $300,000 goal and ensure that the arboriculture learning center at Millborn Farm becomes a lasting symbol of the MAA’s commitment to excellence, safety, and sustainability in tree care. |
