"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world.
Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has." – Margaret Mead
In 2026, MAA members are asked to seek out volunteer projects in your local areas. Your expertise and impact are appreciated in even the smallest ways. Prune a tree at your local library, demonstrate tree planting with an elementary school, remove hazardous limbs at your local playground. Let us know what you'll be doing - we'd love to promote your work. | Thank you Arbor Day of Service Sponsors! |
INTERESTED IN SPONSORING? | ARE YOU MAKING PLANS? Are you an arborist or tree care company planning to volunteer on Arbor Day? Tell us your plans and we will share your good work! | COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS |
Sherborn Town Improvement Advisory Committee
19-23 Washington Street (Sherborn Town Campus). We are a volunteer group that includes the Town Planner, a member of Historic District Committee, a Building Architect, a Landscape Architect, a member of the Open Space, and Garden Club reps. The Committee is charged with evaluation and providing advice for various town landscaping related projects and works directly with the Town Administrator and the DPW Director. We are specifically interested in evaluation of trees and implementation of necessary tree work located on #19 and 23 Washington Street. In addition, we would want recommendations regarding the small Apple Orchard also located on 23 Washington Street. Contact: DPW Director Sean Killeen email skilleen@sherbornma.org; phone 508-651-7878

Whitinsville Community Center - 60 Main Street, Whitinsville, MA
The Whitinsville Community Center is a local recreational facility in Whitinsville, Massachusetts, serving as a hub for fitness programs, sports, and community events for the surrounding area. The Whitinsville Community Center now stewards the historic grounds of the former Whitin Mansion estate, a site that remains home to a remarkable collection of specimen trees. The landscape features a dedicated Asian garden with truly unique specimens, including a massive 50-inch diameter Katsura, two majestic Ginkgos, and two historic Kwanzan Cherries, alongside various Japanese Maples and native species. Many of these aging giants carry legacy hardware and now require critical maintenance, including structural pruning, updated cable support systems, and hazard mitigation. While the Community Center has been steadily working to maintain the park, current funding is not sufficient to address the entire collection at once. These trees are magnificent examples of horticultural history, and it would be a profound loss to see them fail due to a lack of resources. This Arbor Day presents a perfect opportunity for skilled arborists to volunteer their expertise and help preserve these beautiful specimens for many years to come.
