Urban Tree Health: Strategies to Avoid Construction Damage

There are countless benefits to healthy trees in the urban landscape including air quality, property value, traffic noise reduction, and more. Over time, the value of a tree increases while the value of other urban assets decrease. We’ll take a close look at the importance of protecting urban trees during construction and road work to ensure their vitality and enhance longevity. See practical examples of ways to protect street trees and structural roots to mitigate potential failure. Discuss scenarios that will cause damage and review the negative impact. Take away urban tree preservation strategies you can put to use right away.

About our speaker:  David Lefcourt shares the responsibility for the preservation and maintenance of more than 21,000 city trees, planting over 1,000 trees each year, and maintaining a proactive annual pruning cycle. He works closely with other city divisions and departments on tree-related issues, and he educates residents, contractors, as well as tree and landscape professionals about the importance of tree protection and tree care.

VISTA Award Recipient, Jay Ippolito, MCA

This year’s VISTA Award will go to Jay Ippolito, MCA, MCLP, president and owner of Olde Colonial Tree & Landscape in Hingham, MA. We hope you can join us in celebrating Jay and his many achievements, as well as his valuable contributions to our industry.

The VISTA award is the most important honor the association can bestow upon one of its members.  It was conceived to recognize truly outstanding tree care professionals whose acts and deeds serve as a guide and challenge for all members of the industry. The award’s title is an acronym for Vision, Integrity, Service, Talent, and Action – the leadership qualities inherent in all award recipients.
