Adapting Plant Health Care Strategies Amid a Changing Climate

Tree care professionals must be vigilant in modifying essential plant health care strategies when addressing the challenges posed by weather extremes.  As climate change brings about shifts in temperature, precipitation patterns, storms and the prevalence of pests and diseases, it’s important to update management practices to ensure healthy trees and shrubs in the landscape. Dr. Palmateer will address emerging and recurring pest and disease issues, as well as provide modern management recommendations including some of the newer solutions available for the ornamental landscape.

2 MCA education credits available; MDAR pest credit: 35, 36, CORE (L); ISA credit (1)

Our Speaker

Aaron J. Palmateer, Ph.D.
Director of Agronomy
Harrell’s

Aaron J. Palmateer, an industry-leading Ph.D. with nearly 20 years in the plant health care field, is an integral part of Harrell’s research and development team. After receiving his bachelor’s and master's degrees in plant and soil science from Southern Illinois University, Dr. Palmateer went on to receive his Ph.D. in plant pathology from Auburn University, after which he joined the faculty at the University of Florida (UF).

While at UF, Palmateer oversaw the plant diagnostic clinic. This opportunity exposed him to thousands of different plant diseases, pests, and disorders. During his time in diagnostics, he also performed many in-depth research trials, developing experience in unique efficacy trials. This experience set the stage for Palmateer to transition from academia to the technical side of horticulture. After nearly 13 years on faculty at UF, Palmateer went to work at Bayer as a technical development manager. Five years later, he transitioned to SePRO in technical development, which was his most recent position before joining Harrell's as Director of Agronomy.
