Rope Tension and Forces at the Anchor When Rigging
Rigging trees can be dangerous. Large pieces of cut wood, swinging from a rope, create significant forces on the anchor point in the tree. If the forces are large enough, the anchor or the whole tree could fail, which will likely cause serious injuries and damage. So how do you know whether the piece you’re rigging will cause forces too large for the tree to withstand? A team at UMass has studied the forces in different parts of rigging systems. Dr. Brian Kane will provide some guidance on how to reduce the odds of failure of the system in this presentation.
