Tree Worker Safety: ANSI Z133 Update & the Latest on Tie-In Points
When it comes to safety, we all need to stay up-to-date on research, regulations and best practices. Check in with Professor Brian Kane, Ph.D. and Professor Emeritus Dennis Ryan, Ph.D. of UMass Stockbridge. Dr. Ryan will kick things off with a quick run-through of the 2017 revisions to the ANSI Z133 Standards. The revisions pertain to electrical hazards, climbing, use of vehicles and mobile equipment, as well as general safety. Dr. Kane will then focus on tie-in points (TIP) when climbing. He'll discuss the likelihood of TIP failure and describe factors that affect the possibility of a failure. He will also present some data on loads measured during ascent into a tree, along with computer simulations of the load-bearing capacity of a specific TIP.
