Those Leaves Look Tasty: Trees from the Point of View of Commonly Encountered Defoliators
We are all familiar with the damage than can be caused in our landscapes by gypsy moth and winter moth. However, there are numerous leaf-chewing insects that also demand our attention. Did you know that it is not only the Order Lepidoptera that sports some voracious defoliators? Representatives from the Hymenoptera include the dogwood sawfly and the European pine sawfly, and Coleopterans such as the imported willow leaf beetle can also be pests. See examples of the damage these defoliators can create and explore management techniques to keep them at bay.
