Recertification

MCA Program | 2010 MCA Examining Committee | MCA CD Study Guide | Study Guide Updates

  • MCAs are required to obtain five (5) recertification credits within a calendar year (January 1 – December 31). Accumulated credits do not carry over from year to year.
  • MCAs are required to complete an annual Recertification Tally Sheet (RTS). Once the MAA office has received your completed tally sheet for the previous year, the RTS for the current year is mailed. The deadline for submission is February 15 of the following year.

  • Incomplete tally sheets will be returned to the sender. Please make sure you have covered all minimum requirements (e.g safety, education, etc).
  • The annual MCA renewal fee is included in the MAA dues payment for members in good standing. Non-members pay an annual administrative fee of $50.00 to maintain their MCA designation.
  • New Late Fee - a $25 administration fee will be assessed for RTS forms received after March 30.
  • The recertification program operates on the honor system. Proof of attendance is not required at the time the RTS is submitted. The MCA Examining Committee conducts random audits on an annual basis. If you are audited, you will be required to provide proof of attendance or participation for the credit claimed on your RTS. Accurate recordkeeping is the responsibility of the individual MCA.
  • There are a variety of ways to obtain recertification credit during the course of a year. Many of the recertification opportunities parallel current certification and/or license requirements. Association membership, arboriculture seminars, and community service are a few of the ways MCAs can obtain credit.

Revocation
If the annual recertification requirement is not met by January 1, and/or the RTS is not submitted by February 15, your MCA designation could be revoked. An individual whose certification is revoked may elect to re-take the MCA examination at the regular fee and may renew their certification status upon successful completion of the examination.

Retired Status
The annual recertification requirement may be waived for MCAs who submit an application for Retired Status and meet the following criteria:

The candidate spends less than 10% of his/her time practicing arboriculture and:

1. has been an active MCA for thirty (30) or more consecutive years; or

2. has been a MAA member in good standing for thirty (30) or more consecutive years.

Applications are reviewed by the MCA examining committee and MCA Retired Status is granted at the discretion of the committee.
