Techniques for Safe Tree Felling & Cutting

It’s a fact that felling trees is one of the most life threatening activities any tree worker can perform. We’ll focus on precision felling utilizing pull lines and mechanical advantage systems with an emphasis on personal safety, risk assessment and accident prevention. Using effective work planning strategies, you will gain an understanding of what contributes to accidents and how to avoid them while doing your job effectively. Space is limited and PPE is required (hearing & eye protection and helmet).

Emerging & Persistent Diseases Threatening Our Trees

In Massachusetts, there are several persistent and emerging pathogens threatening the long-term health of trees in both landscape and forest settings. The latest symptoms, signs and management options for Oak wilt – which was detected at several locations in New York State just last year – will be discussed. We’ll also look at the emergence of Diplodia corticola, a cankering pathogen of oaks; persistent needle blight and cankering pathogens of Eastern White Pine; and root and butt rot pathogens of mature landscape hardwoods.
